Montessori Education

How to benefit from our Free Montessori Education Teacher Training Programme ?

Today, there are Montessori schools around the globe. Countries such as the UK, the USA, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain have all seen the enormous benefits of nurturing children to reach their true potential through the implementation of the Montessori model of education. Even the British Royal Family are strong advocates of the Montessori Model; Prince Harry, William and George have all been educated in Montessori schools.

The system is based on a number of key principles, all of which aim to develop a child’s self-confidence, age-appropriate self-responsibility and innate desire to learn. Montessori classrooms enable children to achieve their individual potential through careful guidance, the use of carefully developed materials and the creation of an enabling and nourishing environment.

Classical education focusses more on children listening and hearing about life than on enabling children to truly learn through experiencing things for themselves. In contrast, the Montessori model focusses on experiential learning, thus empowering children to achieve their true potential.

Sadly, in teacher-directed classrooms, children are more often disempowered than empowered. In everyday life and in schools, impatience, lack of time or other constraints lead adults and teachers to take over tasks that children are actively involved in, thus robbing them of valuable learning opportunities. For example, a teacher shows a child how to cut out a shape, gives the scissors and shape to the child, and waits. The child, who may be attempting the task for the first time, struggles. Then the teacher, perhaps impatient, or perhaps truly wanting to help the child, takes over and completes the task for the child. With this approach, the child is not encouraged to persevere or to learn through normal trial and error.

In Montessori classrooms, however, a child is given the opportunity to master the task through loving guidance, the careful selection of age-appropriate materials and a focus on self-correction and self-responsibility. In this type of classroom, children experience a real sense of achievement and self-empowerment – an element that is often sadly lacking in more traditional educational establishments.
